After a briefhistorical-institutional outline of the Italian cultural heritage, thefundamental aspects of the subject are addressed, with themes ranging from theconcepts of a cultural artefact or cultural property, including the landscapeas heritage and the related activities (protection and enhancement) to rules andregulations applied to the cultural heritage in present-day Italian andEuropean Union law. In addition to these classical topics, the concept ofcultural heritage has been developed to include a new and decidedly moreinnovative consideration, by focusing on the question of traditional forms oftrade and business activities in historical town centres. Forattending students the method is a written assessment particularly based on thelecturers. Each question (3-5) is evaluatedin thirtieths. The average of the votes, together with the average of Environmental Law, constitutes the final grade.For notattending students the method is an oral assessment basedon the textbooks and reading materials. Learning outcomesThe course aims to provide students without basic legal skills, with fundamental knowledge of the cultural heritage sector. The course will, firstly, provide some fundamentals of public and administrative law and secondly it will cover both the organizational and functional aspects of the subject-matter, including the Ministry of Cultural Heritage’s (MIBAC) structure and competencies and the Code of cultural heritage and landscape provisions. At the end of the course, student shall have acquired specific knowledge to allow them to: - be acquainted with the specific features of the public structures involved in the cultural heritage protection - understand the peculiarities of the administrative procedures and the other legal instruments aimed at protecting the cultural heritage Syllabus.
